Etizolam is a thiophenzodiazepine derivative, which is a benzodiazepine analogue. The etizolam molecule is different from benzodiazepines because the benzene ring has been replaced by a thiophene ring and the triazole ring has fused, making the drug a thiopentriazolzodiazepine. Despite being A thiophenzodiazepine, Etizolam is clinically considered a benzodiazepine because it acts through benzodiazepine receptors and directly targets GABA A receptors. It has anti-anxiety, forgetfulness, anti-convulsion, hypnosis, sedation and skeletal muscle relaxation effects. Etizolam is an antianxiety drug with lower tolerance and dependence than benzodiazepines. It was patented in 1972 [12] and approved for medical use in 1983. As of April 2021, India bans the export of etizolam. Medical use Short-term treatment for insomnia. Anxiety disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and general anxiety disorders, are used primarily as short-term medications, purely as needed
